Gainsborough House is pleasantly situated overlooking allotments and fields on the western edge of Milborne Port, 2 miles east of Sherborne in Dorset.
Within a few minutes’ walk, there is a doctors’ surgery, butcher, chemist, Co-op, newsagent and the well-known “Tippling Philosopher” public house. Sherborne offers a wide range of shops and supermarkets and the castle attracts visitors from all over the world.
Gainsborough House, originally a Victorian villa with stabling, became a Christian Retirement Home for Christians of limited means in 1981, originally with 10 residents mostly accommodated in the converted stables. Having fallen into a state of disrepair, the site was acquired by LWPHomes in 2017 and has been skilfully converted to provide 10 spacious and modern assisted living units for couples, both in the original house and round the attractive courtyard.
Completely equipped for modern living with kitchen appliances, wetroom, nursecall and security systems, broadband and phone system and ready for occupation from November 2018, LWP has created attractive and peaceful community living for retirees.
There will be 10 flats available, each consisting of a double bedroom, wet room including toilet & sink and a living area which has a seating area and kitchen. There will be a community room and an extensive garden to the rear of the site. There will be parking on the complex of 1 parking space for each flat; visitors’ parking is available on the road outside.
The flats will be unfurnished, but will include:

- Vacuum Cleaner
- Each flat will have a VOIP telephone included in the rent.
- There will be a wireless call bell system in place and individual video entry phones
- Wi-Fi & a broadband socket in each lounge.

- Slip resistant flooring to kitchen and wetroom, specialised carpeting elsewhere

From the start there will be a scheme manager on-site who will provide support Monday-Friday for the tenants, this will not include care, shopping or laundry. The scheme manager will assist them with paperwork & appointment type services.
