About Us
Westerley Christian Care Homes are operated by the charity and company limited by guarantee, The Leaders of Worship and Preachers Homes (LWPHomes).
Details about our Trustees and Governance are to be find here.

History
The origins of LWPHomes derive from the formation in 1849 of the Methodist Local Preachers Mutual Aid Association (MLPMA). With the passage of time, MLPMA felt the need to make specific provision for Local Preachers and their dependants in terms of residential care in retirement. This led to the formation of Mutual Aid Homes (MAH) in 1949. Both MLPMA and MAH were charities with specific focus on the Methodist Church, In 2004 MLPMAA became the Leaders of Worship and Preachers Trust (LWPT) and Mutual Aid Homes became the Leaders of Worship and Preachers Homes. The Christian mission for LWPH essentially replicated that of MAH whilst that of LWPT was directed to broader ecumenical horizons. Both are charities and companies limited by guarantee.
LWPHomes is also the Principal Employer for the (closed to entry) MLPMAA defined benefit pension scheme. For the benefit of the scheme members a scheme information page is published on this site.

Priority for admission
Priority is given to those involved in or training for leading worship and their dependants. The key criterion for admission of residents is that they have an enthusiasm to reside in and embrace an active Christian community. Christian family values are at the heart of our organisation with daily prayers and regular celebrations of Holy Communion.

Sheltered Housing Units
In 2019, LWPHomes skilfully refurbished 10 converted stables at Gainsborough House in Milborne Port. The new flats provide spacious and modern assisted living units for couples to rent, both in the original house and the attractive courtyard. Designed for independent living, within a Christian community, it is the ideal place for you to enjoy your retirement.
